Joey Ramone Dead at Age 49
Sigh. This is really sad. You just don't expect Mr. Rock N Roll High School to be dead. And you know what galls me a little bit about this generally very nice obit? They don't mention his lovely production work on Ronnie Spector's excellent EP She Talks to Rainbows. Also, they refer to CBGB as CBGB's. I hate that. I guess now would be the time to pick up a copy of the most recent issue of SPIN, since half of them have his mug on them (the other ones have Sid Vicious).

Parker Lewis Can't Lose
Does anyone else (besides Adam, who is the source for this link) miss this show? stee used to include a Corin Nemec Happy Song Corner in his entries, but Corky's been succeeded by Anna Nicole Smith and Robert Downey, Jr. What has Corky done since PLCL? Nothing! At least the guy who played Kubiac went on to mild ER fame. And that's a darn shame. Surely there's an audience for a Nick-at-Nite Parker Lewis-athon. I know I'd watch.

I'm a Classic Unusual Baby Namer
I acknowledge here that I am 1) the last to get hip to the greatness of Flak Magazine; and 2) one of those girls who think more than they ought to about the names of their future child(ren). About the first admission, Flak reviewed Unusual & Unique Baby Names, where I took this surprisingly accurate & as the Flak reviewer said, comprehensive naming style quiz, which told me that I am into Classic Unusual names. The list of Classic Unusual names includes not only my name, but the names of one of my sisters (both her first & middle name), two of my uncles, one of my cousins, and my boyfriend. Also, I really do like nearly every name on that list (most of my other favourite names show up on the list of Classic Eccentric names. Ooooh, weird. Either that, or I'm easy to peg.

File Under: Disturbing
Steve Buscemi got knifed in a bar fight early Thursday morning. Yikes. He'll be fine, apparently, but whoever did the knifing must have wanted a piece of him pretty badly: he was wounded above his eye, near his jaw, in the neck, and on his arms. I could say something not nice here about how he's funny looking enough already without stab wound scars, but I'll refrain.

Some Lists

It's Springtime, I've had a beautiful walk around town, decided to invest in another disposable camera to document how lovely everything is, and have come up with some lists. I'm all about lists, so here they are. It's mental Spring Cleaning.

The Awesome Cindy Sherman
As mentioned above, gmtPlus9 is one of those blogs I really should remember to read more often. The problem is that Andrew's links are always so amazing that I'm tempted either to steal an embarrassing number of them, or disheartened by my inability to find such cool links and want to chuck the whole blog thing. So maybe it's just as well that I read infrequently. At any rate, he's got this link here to an exhibition at the Manhattan MOMA on Cindy Sherman. How much do I love that the opening shot is of the luscious librarian?

Desktop Theremin
There are never too many desktop toys. This is a must-have not only for Brian Wilson wannabies, but also for those of us who are wondering when the hell Portishead will get around to releasing their next album. Via jejune.

New York's Legal Representation Problem
I had no idea that New York State has no public defender system. So people who can't afford a lawyer are assigned to one of what sounds like a handful of grossly overworked private lawyers. This is the second of three really interesting articles on New York's unintentionally two-tiered justice system.

Finally!
Are you as sick as I am of the rerun graveyard that has been the Buffy and Angel schedules for the last six weeks? Bor-ing. Anyway, the folks at the WB (or The New VR, for GTA residents) have at long last seen fit to grace the airwaves with new episodes, starting next week. See the previews here.

Post-Passover Delights
Donuty.com is not Kosher for Passover, but it sure is tasty looking. Brought to you by Gayla, the gentle force behind You Grow Girl, Donuty is all about sugary, floury, greasy goodness. Donut Culture Studies, if you will.

How To Fall In Love With A Girl
Girl-lovers of all stripes should read and commit this little essay to memory. Sarahjane wrote it for girl-lovin' girls, but it could easily apply to girl-lovin' boys. And it should, by gum. How could this commonsensical and gently self-mocking approach to romance fail? It's foolproof, baby!

Radiskull and Devil Doll: The Adventure Continues
There are so many amusing pop culture references in the latest episode of Radiskull & Devil Doll! My favourites are the flying skulls (so reminiscent of the scary flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz) and Devil Doll's Rocky-like anguished mountaintop cry of "Caaaaandy!" Meanwhile, Candy Angel displays unforseen resourcefulness and bad-ass candy fu. Who knew shockwave animation could be so involving? Or so addictive?
