Welcome to Coen Land
This is not just an exhaustive Coen Brothers filmography; it's also the best & most lucid description of auteur-hood I've ever read. Read it read it read it. Via xeney.

Hello, Rhyming Couplet Hilarity!
This you have to see.

Fast Food Nation
Oh, man. I read two excerpts from this book a couple of years ago in Rolling Stone and they were enough to put me off fast food for about 6 months. I think if I read this book, I'd never eat at the Golden Arches ever again. I don't know if I'm ready for that level of commitment to health & responsible consumerism.

A Plea For Help

Can some kind wordsmithy reader please tell me (or maybe point me in the direction of) the derivation of the word "tweak"? Someone in my research methods class on Monday night tried to explain that it was a Yiddish word, but I know that's just so much horseshrek. My own, cursory, etymological dectective work has yielded nothing.

Holy Shrek!
Speaking of my favourite expletive, it seem's that they've made Shrek! into a movie! Will shrek come into common usage as a result of Mike Myers' voicing the hideous green monster? A girl can hope, can't she?

Jennifer/Puffy Split
At last! It's about damn time. My post-Out of Sight admiration for Miss Lopez withered somewhat after I learned that she & Puffy were an item. It practically dwindled away to nothing when I learned recently that she'd rather be considered sexy than intelligent. But I'm shallow. Show me a star I want to like in a pretty dress and tell me she's washed that overblown, played-out, anger management-needy thug of a man right out of her hair, and she's right back on my Good List.

Early Bird Recap of Tonight's Buffy Episode
If you just can't wait til 8 PM EST (or, if, like me, you have to work til 10:30 on Tuesday nights and can't get your Joss fix until Thursday, at the earliest, because of your wacky schedule), Loey's got the drug you're thinking of.

Royals, Royals Everywhere
Gael, if you don't know about this site, bookmark it right away! Ananova's Royals section has all the latest stories on members of the British Royal Family, and they've also got everything indexed by family member. So if you want to be up-to-date on what Wills has been doing during his pre-University year off, you can read about his Patagonian adventure (in reverse chronological order). Not that I would know anything about that kind of obsessive information gathering behaviour.

Spruce Up Your Desktop
I found tawdry through one of Nanette's link lists. Kate's got an ever-expanding batch of kitschy (and some not so kitschy) pop culture icons, for use on your website or desktop or whatever. There's so much good stuff here - Miss Piggy, Margaret Cho, Pee-Wee Herman, Steve Buscemi, John Cusack, Divine, Bettie Page, Beck, Elvis, Christina Ricci, Carmen Miranda, Christopher Walken, and (wait for it) Slash.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

It's my Mom's birthday today. She reads this weblog pretty much every day, and sometimes she writes to suggest links or offer commentary on something I've posted. I know that most of what I post isn't really that interesting to her, (which is probably just as well. I might feel wierd if she started joining my sister Pookahontas & I in our detailed, obsessive discussions of Buffy & Angel episodes) but she reads kerplink anyway, because she likes to keep up with my life, and she seems to like me, in general. Strange, but true!

So because it's her birthday, and I can't be at home to warble "Happy Birthday" off key to her along with the rest of my family, I'm posting links to stuff I know she likes. Enjoy, Mom! Happy Birthday to yoooooou.

First up: J-J-J-Jensen! I'm rawther fond of the square brooch featuring wheat & sickle. Farm workers of the world, unite and accessorize! This site also features lots of nice flatware. You know, if you were thinking of updating your pattern, or something. And if you come visit me, we can go see this collection at the Royal Ontario Museum. Whee!

Then, there's these lovely Lalique things to lust after.

Shared Birthdays!
You mean people other than my Mom were born on this day, too? Stop! You're turning my whole world upside down! Among the lucky birthday sharers: Piper Laurie, Sam Cooke, D.W. Griffith, George Gordon Lord Byron, John Hurt, Jim Jarmusch, Linda Blair, Michael Hutchence, Diane Lane, Seymour Cassel.

On This Day
Hey, it's not just my Mom's birthday! Other stuff happened on this day in history! Imagine that.
